about
Notes: Semi-autobiographical. Semi-true. This would be a semi-final version if their was actually a final version. (And to that end, these are the lyrics as I'd like them to be, though sung a tad different.)
The boys and I flew to Nicaragua. The cold war was ending, and it was before the dollar dropped out. Coyotes on the street, hot breakfast. The lovliest-looking young women. Hot-headed men. The sun never felt better, and this world was truly different. Authentico.
The song is semi-final because it was written in anticipation of the adventure, and recorded quickly before I embarked as to not lose the thought. But the song it-needs-to-be is the one recorded after I returned from Granada, the city on the trigger-hole of the continent.
The song it is currently, is more like a rock-radio summer jam. Well, If the shoe fits...
lyrics
Sandinistas eatin’ Ranchitos
What the hell do we know
Speedin to Reno
All the way from Sausalito
I put 5 on Black
Seventy-three
Makin the scene
in my old jalopy
I was kicked to the bricks
Pulled up my stakes
Pinned it at 85
With the wobbles and shakes
(C’mon)
Rock with me, baby
Rock with me, girl
Rock with me, lady
Rock my world
So much profit in the prophets
I wish they’d just come off it
Her speech ain’t no sonnet
Ain’t no bee in her bonnet
About it. The past-dated dogma
Soakin in a sauna
While I’m playin dead like an iguana
Flyin outta Managua
You can’t pay me to lay low
Tell me something I don’t know
I beg yer pardon and say so
I’m the way the wind blows
(Darlin)
Rock with me, baby
Rock with me, girl
Rock with me, honeychild
(won’t you) Rock my world
Rock with me, baby
Rock with me, girl
Rock with me in the summertime
Rock my world.
