about
Origins: The first part of this song was in my notebook for some time, since the early Blood and Treasure sessions. The "cats and bird" came from a random thought I had written on a post-it years before, and then the "Steven King" bit was completely improvised during this session. The connection of the three different parts happened during one evening session, I practiced them together a bit and hit record.
A decent, if not strange, lil' story.
lyrics
The Commander turned to his men
and said, "Brothers, we must defend.
The Keep that protects our kind,
The Moat that guards our lives, and
The Walls that they can't climb." But when I turned my back, he took what was mine.
Do you think cats were once birds?
Do you think cats were once birds?
Then all of a sudden, I was standing there
And Steven King, he asked me, "What the hell are you doing here?"
And I stood there, unsure of where there actually was
And said, "I don't know. It's your dream.
But it must be my nightmare."
And then he turned to me
and inexplicably asked
"Hey man,do you think cats were once birds?"
Do you think cats were once birds?
Do you think cats were once birds?
